Inleiding
TRANSFORMATORHUIS van het Energiebedrijf Groningen/Drenthe, karakteristiek gelegen op een kleine brink. Dit type, gebouwd in 1921 en ontworpen door de bedrijfsbouwkundige in typische Interbellum-architectuur, komt in Drenthe vaker voor. Dit exemplaar wordt echter vanwege de ligging in het te beschermen dorpsgezicht Westervelde (thans in procedure) als kenmerkende representant beschermd.
Omschrijving
In lichte en donkere baksteen opgetrokken rechthoekig gebouwtje gedekt door een met Tuile du Nord-pannen belegd zadeldak. Enigszins taps toelopende plint van baksteen; opbouw met sober decoratief metselwerk in zijgevel en topgevels; smeedijzeren sierankers en gekoppelde ventilatieroosters in topgevel. Noordgevel met dubbel opgeklampte deuren met geheng; oostgevel met plaatijzeren deur met geheng en aan weerskanten smalle vensters met glastegels onder een latei; zuidgevel met gekoppelde vensters met glastegels. De overstekende kap rust op gekoppelde korbelen op klossen.

TRANSFORMER HOUSE of the Energiebedrijf Groningen/Drenthe, characteristically situated on a small village green. This type, built in 1921 and designed by the works architect in typical Interwar architecture, occurs more frequently in Drenthe. However, this example is protected as a characteristic representative because of its location in the village scene Westervelde to be protected (currently in procedure).
Description
Small rectangular building constructed of light and dark brick, covered by a gabled roof tiled with Tuile du Nord tiles. Slightly tapered base of brick; construction with sober decorative brickwork in side gable and top gables; wrought-iron ornamental wall anchors and paired ventilation grilles in top gable. North gable with double hinged doors with hinges; east gable with sheet-iron door with hinges and narrow windows with glass tiles on either side under a lintel; south gable with paired windows with glass tiles. The overhanging roof rests on paired corbels on blocks.
Valuation
Transformer house of architectural-historical, typological, infrastructural and urban planning importance; also of importance as a characteristic and intact example situated in the protected village scene Westervelde (currently in procedure).
