Inleiding
GRAFMONUMENT, opgericht in 1872 voor de in dat jaar overleden Catharina Maria van Bulderen en de reeds in 1860 overleden Gerard Pieter Tetrode. Het monument ligt direct voor het grafmonument van de familie Brumsteede dat eveneens is beschermd, op het achterste noordelijke perk van de uit 1822 daterende Noorderbegraafplaats (die overigens niet van rijkswege wordt beschermd). Het gietijzeren monument is een product van de Asser IJzer- en Metaalgieterij en een van de meest opvallende ijzeren graftekens op deze begraafplaats.
Omschrijving.
Het gietijzeren monument is samengesteld uit een vierkante piedestal met bredere voet en octogonale zuil, die staat op een door hekwerk omgeven hardstenen onderbouw met tot grafstenen verwerkte hellende vlakken van hardsteen. Het hekwerk bestaat uit gecanneleerde balusters met knopbekroning op de hoeken en neogotische hekken met maaswerk. De overlijdensdatum van Maria van Bulderen staat aan de voorkant van de piedestal aangegeven in een met profiellijst omrand paneel, de overlijdensdatum van Gerard Pieter Tetrode staat vermeld aan de achterzijde. De zijkanten zijn voorzien van spaarvelden, waarvan een is ingevuld met het restant van een lauwerkrans.
Waardering
Het grafmonument van de familie Van Bulderen is in de eerste plaats van cultuurhistorisch belang als typische uiting van de negentiende-eeuwse grafcultuur in Nederland. Een dergelijke in ijzer uitgevoerd, rijk versierd en aan de bouwstijl van de tijd van ontstaan refererend grafmonument voor de betere stand is bovendien vrij schaars geworden, waardoor het zeldzaamheidswaarde heeft. GRAVE MONUMENT, erected in 1872 for Catharina Maria van Bulderen who died that year and Gerard Pieter Tetrode who had already died in 1860. The monument stands directly in front of the grave monument of the Brumsteede family which is also protected, on the rear northern plot of the Noorderbegraafplaats dating from 1822 (which is not otherwise protected by the state). The cast iron monument is composed of a square pedestal with broader base and octagonal column, which stands on a limestone foundation surrounded by fencing with inclined limestone planes worked as gravestones. The fencing consists of fluted balusters with knob finials at the corners and neogothic railings with tracery. The date of death of Maria van Bulderen is indicated on the front of the pedestal in a panel framed by a profile moulding, the date of death of Gerard Pieter Tetrode is stated on the rear. The sides are provided with blank fields, one of which is filled with the remains of a laurel wreath.
Valuation
The grave monument of the Van Bulderen family is primarily of cultural-historical importance as a typical expression of nineteenth-century grave culture in the Netherlands.
