Inleiding
LOGEERHUIS uit 1937/38, gebouwd op een in 1920 door de bioloog Prof. J.C. Schoute gekocht natuurterrein. Het is in Functionalistische stijl ontworpen door zijn schoonzoon Ir. J.W.C. Boks uit Rotterdam. Het pand is gebouwd in de lengterichting boven een sloot met duidelijke oriëntatie op het zuidelijke gelegen meer en op de overgangszone van riet naar struikgewas. Het huis werd dan ook geruime tijd gebruikt als observatieplek voor studenten van Schoute.
Omschrijving.
Het boven een sloot gelegen huis is gebouwd op betonnen kolommen en heeft een gewapend betonnen onderbouw. De indeling is gebaseerd op een maat van 16,17 x 5,50 meter. Het huis telt een bouwlaag en wordt gedekt deels door een platdak dat tevens dienst doet als dakterras, en door een a-symmetrische flauw gebogen kapvorm met overstek. De gevelindeling wordt bepaald door een bakstenen opbouw en stalen ramen. Aan de oostzijde een inspring ten behoeve van de entree en de gang. De entree is geplaatst onder een hoek van 45 graden. De gang loopt langs de keuken en de slaapkamers en heeft een royale lichttoetreding. De woonkamer is georienteerd op het zuiden en is zo transparant mogelijk gemaakt door de stalen ramen met openslaande terrasdeuren (de oorspronkelijke indeling is vervangen in overleg met de architect). Het balkon is bereikbaar zowel via de woonkamer als via de trappen vanaf het grondniveau aan weerszijden van het huis. De west- en oostgevel van de woonkamer zijn voorzien van ronde stalen draairamen. De westelijke en noordelijke gevels hebben een strakke maatvoering met een maatsysteem van 1,21 meter voor de ramen. Langs de oostgevel loopt een stalen trap naar het dakterras. Het dakterras is geplaatst boven de woonkamer en wordt aan de zuidzijde afgezet door een glazen borstwering in een stalen frame. Aan weerszijden van de met zinken kap uitgevoerde schoorsteen stond een in staal gevat glazen windscherm.

A GUEST HOUSE from 1937/38, built on a natural area purchased in 1920 by the biologist Prof. J.C. Schoute. It was designed in Functionalist style by his son-in-law Ir. J.W.C. Boks from Rotterdam. The west and north facades have a rigorous modular design with a measurement system of 1.21 metres for the windows. Along the east facade runs a steel staircase to the roof terrace. The roof terrace is placed above the living room and is bordered on the south side by a glazed balustrade in a steel frame. On either side of the chimney executed with zinc capping stood a glass wind screen set in steel.
