Omschrijving
GASTHUISCOMPLEX, bestaande uit een U-vormig hoofdgebouw en twee los staande gebouwen op het binnenterrein, een smeedijzeren hek rondom het terrein met toegangshekken, twee lantaarnpalen op sokkels aan weerszijden van de hoofdingang en twee gietijzeren trapjes op het binnenterrein. Het zogenoemd Sint Anthony Gasthuis, ontstaan in 1878 in eclectische stijl naar ontwerp van architect Frederik Stoett. Gebouw op U-vormige plattegrond met twee vleugels binnen de U, gelegen op een aan het beloop van het terrein aangepaste hardstenen voet, opgetrokken uit baksteen, onderkelderd en gedekt door met Friese golfjespannen belegde afgeknotte schild- en zadeldaken.
Het aan Grote Kerkstraat, Sint Anthonystraat en Beyerstraat gelegen hoofdgebouw regelmatig ingedeeld in recht eindigende of van een afgeknotte top voorziene, door middel van in baksteen en/of hardsteen uitgevoerde pilasters en cordonlijsten van elkaar gescheiden, velden. De twee op het binnenterrein loodrecht op de U-vorm gelegen vleugels eveneens opgetrokken uit baksteen op onderkeldering en gedekt door met Friese golfjespannen belegde afgeknotte schilddaken, doch sober van uitvoering en grotendeels niet meer oorspronkelijk van detaillering. De aan de Grote Kerkstraat gelegen hoofdvleugel wordt benadrukt door een drie traveeën breed in hardsteen gevat overwelf ingangsportaal - waarboven het opschrift ANNO SINT ANTHONY GASTHUIS 1878 en een sluitsteen met vasthangende klok zonder gietersnaam of jaartal, diam. 40 cm., attribuut van Antonius Abt en symbool van de stichting- met teruggeplaatste dubbele toegangsdeur met gietijzeren sierroosters. Op het dak gietijzeren windvaan met Antoniusklokje en noordpijl. De beide hoekblokken uitgevoerd als hoekpaviljoens met afgeronde hoeken. De muurvlakken zijn verlevendigd door o.a. toepassing van siermetselwerk, natuur- en bakstenen pilasters, dito waterlijsten op de scheiding der verschillende bouwlagen en natuurstenen consoles, sluitstenen en negblokken; de kroonlijst is zorgvuldig gedetailleerd en verkropt langs ingangspartij en paviljoens. Deuren en ramen van zowel hoofd- als soberder uitgevoerde zijvleugels zijn verscheiden van detaillering, waaronder T-vormig en 6-ruits, lichtgetoogd, recht- en halfrondgesloten, al dan niet enkel, twee- of drievoudig gekoppeld en met of zonder gietijzeren luchtroosters ter hoogte van het kalf. In het muurwerk zijn twee oudere herdenkingsstenen aangebracht, respectievelijk uit 1728, ter herinnering aan de bouw van een turfschuur en twee kameren voor krankzinnigen (links van de hoofdingang) en 1783, ter herinnering aan de verbouw van een toenmalige kerk (in de vleugel aan Beyerstraatzijde). Mechanisch torenuurwerk B. Eijsbouts, Asten, 1927, No. 1027, later voorzien van electrische opwinding.
Het gehele terrein is aan Grote Kerkstraat-Beyerstraat- en Sint Anthonystraatzijde omsloten door een eenvoudig gietijzeren hek met door denne-appels en enig krulwerk versierde palen, staande op een eveneens aan het beloop van het terrein aangepaste gemetselde borstwering.
Te weerszijden van de hoofdingang een gietijzeren lantaarnpaal met klassieke motieven, op hardstenen sokkel.
Het terrein is aan Sint Anthonystraat- en Beyerstraatzijde toegangelijk door middel van respectievelijk een eenvoudig draaihek en een dubbel hek waarboven in gietijzer het opschrift SINT ANTHONY GASTHUIS en een cartouche met Anthoniusklokje.
Op het binnenterrein twee lage gietijzeren trapjes.

Description
ALMSHOUSE COMPLEX, consisting of a U-shaped main building and two detached buildings in the courtyard, wrought-iron fencing around the site with access gates, two lamp posts on plinths on either side of the main entrance and two cast-iron steps in the courtyard. The so-called Sint Anthony Almshouse, built in 1878 in eclectic style designed by architect Frederik Stoett. On the roof a cast-iron weather vane with St. Anthony's bell and north pointer. The two corner blocks executed as corner pavilions with rounded corners. The wall surfaces are enlivened by, among other things, the application of ornamental brickwork, natural stone and brick pilasters, drip mouldings on the division of the various storeys and natural stone consoles, keystones and sill stones; the cornice is carefully detailed and projects along the entrance section and pavilions. Doors and windows of both the main and simpler-executed side wings are varied in detailing, including T-shaped and 6-pane, rounded-topped, straight- and half-round-topped, whether single, double or triple coupled and with or without cast-iron ventilation grilles at calf height. Two older memorial stones are set into the masonry, dating respectively from 1728, commemorating the construction of a peat barn and two cells for the insane (to the left of the main entrance) and 1783, commemorating the reconstruction of a church from that time (in the wing on the Beyerstraat side). Mechanical tower clock by B. Eijsbouts, Asten, 1927, No. 1027, later provided with electric winding.
The entire site is enclosed on the Grote Kerkstraat-Beyerstraat and Sint Anthonystraat sides by a simple cast-iron fence with dune-apple finials and some scrollwork decorating the pales, standing on a brick parapet wall likewise adapted to the site's slope.
On either side of the main entrance a cast-iron lamp post with classical motifs, on a dressed stone plinth.
The site is accessible on the Sint Anthonystraat and Beyerstraat sides by means of respectively a simple revolving gate and a double gate above which in cast iron the inscription SINT ANTHONY ALMSHOUSE and a cartouche with St. Anthony's bell.
