Inleiding.
Herenhuis uit 1902, gebouwd in opdracht van de bouwmaatschappij Statenplein. Het pand vormt onderdeel van een reeks aaneengesloten herenhuizen Statenlaan 2/2a/2b - Statenplein 4 t/m 13 - Willem de Zwijgerlaan 1, 1a/3, 5 in een keer ontworpen in neo-renaissance door architect N. Molenaar. Omschrijving.
Herenhuis op rechthoekige plattegrond, bestaande uit begane grond en verdieping onder een afgeknot schilddak. In de rode bakstenen gevel is ter accentuering van neggen, strekken, bogen en sierbanden de baksteen zachtgeel geschilderd. Het rechterdeel van de gevel is op de verdieping licht risalerend en wordt gedekt door een schilddak met pirons. Het linkerdeel van de gevel wordt afgesloten door een gemetseld boogvormig hek. De dakkapel wordt gedekt door een schilddak met pirons. De vensters op de begane grond bezitten glas-in-lood bovenlichten; de vensters in het linkerdeel zijn op de verdieping voorzien van rondboog bovenlichten met glas-in-lood en verticale roeden. De voordeur met smeedijzeren panelen is gesitueerd in een getoogd portiek. De lage bakstenen muur die de scheiding vormt tussen straat en tuin is in later tijd vernieuwd. Waardering.

In the red brick facade, to accentuate recesses, bands, arches and ornamental strips the brick is painted soft yellow. The right part of the facade on the first storey is slightly projecting and is covered by a hipped roof with roof tiles. The left part of the facade is closed off by a masonry arched railing. The dormer is covered by a hipped roof with roof tiles.
