Inleiding.
Herenhuis uit 1902, gebouwd in opdracht van de bouwmaatschappij Statenplein. Het pand vormt onderdeel van een reeks aaneengesloten herenhuizen Statenlaan 2/2a/2b - Statenplein 4 t/m 13 - Willem de Zwijgerlaan 1, 1a/3, 5 in een keer ontworpen in neo-renaissance door architect N. Molenaar. Omschrijving.
Herenhuis op rechthoekige plattegrond, bestaande uit begane grond en verdieping onder een afgeknot schilddak, drie assen breed. In de rode bakstenen gevel is ter accentuering van neggen, strekken, bogen en sierbanden witte kalksteen toegepast. Het linkerdeel van de gevel is als risaliet uitgebouwd en gedekt door een schilddak met pirons. Hierin is een dakkapel met trapgevel geplaatst. De vensters zijn voorzien van glas-in-lood bovenlichten en onderverdeeld in verticale roeden. De ingang is in een getoogd portiek gesitueerd, waarboven een balkon op natuurstenen consoles, afgesloten door een gemetseld boogvormig balkonhek. De voordeur bezit smeedijzeren panelen. De lage bakstenen muur die de scheiding vormt tussen straat en tuin is in later tijd vernieuwd. Waardering.
Herenhuis van architectuurhistorisch belang als markant voorbeeld van een woonhuis van rond 1900, gebouwd in neo-renaissance stijl. Hoofdvorm, detaillering en toegepast materiaal zijn gaaf bewaard. Townhouse on rectangular plan, consisting of ground floor and first storey under a hipped roof, three bays wide. In the red brick facade white limestone is applied to accentuate the recesses, courses, arches and decorative bands. The left part of the facade is built out as a risalit and covered by a hipped roof with cresting. In this is placed a roof dormer with a stepped gable. The windows are provided with leaded glass fanlights and subdivided into vertical glazing bars. The entrance is situated in an arched portico, above which a balcony on natural stone consoles, closed off by a brick arch-shaped balcony railing. The front door has wrought-iron panels. The low brick wall which forms the division between street and garden was renewed at a later date. Valuation.
