Inleiding.
Voormalig herenhuis op rechthoekige plattegrond uit circa 1875 in eclectische stijl ontworpen door de architect J.J. Delia als onderdeel van een ensemble van drie herenhuizen. Omschrijving.
Linker pand, op de hoek met de Amaliastraat, onderdeel van een symmetrisch opgezet blok van drie eclectische voormalige herenhuizen nummers 6, 8 en 10, bestaande uit kelder, lage parterre, beletage, hoge derde verdieping en lage vierde verdieping onder een laag deels met mastiek en deels met zink gedekte kap; 11 vensterassen breed en drie vensterassen diep. Het middelste pand, nummer 8, heeft een breedte van drie vensterassen, waarvan de middelste als risaliet met ingang is opgevat. De beide flankerende huizen, nummer 6 en 10, beslaan elk vier assen. In de laatstgenoemde huizen bevindt zich de risaliet met ingang in de op een na buitenste vensteras. De parterre van de voorgevel en linker zijgevel is bekleed met gebosseerde hardsteen en wordt afgesloten door een hardstenen cordonlijst. Voor het overige zijn de gevels in schoon metselwerk uitgevoerd. Vleugeldeuren met gesneden trumeau in de voorgevel; hierboven balkons van hardsteen op in hardsteen gebeeldhouwde voluutconsoles. De beletagevensters in de risalieten hebben licht getoogde kroonlijsten op consoles; de vensters hierboven bezitten geprofileerde omlijstingen met oren en stucbekroningen Onder de vensters van de eerste verdieping geprofileerde, door consoles gedragen vensterbanken die deel uitmaken van de geprofileerde waterlijst tussen beletage en eerste verdieping. Left building, at the corner with Amaliastraat, part of a symmetrically arranged block of three eclectic former mansions numbers 6, 8 and 10, consisting of basement, low ground floor, principal floor, high third storey and low fourth storey beneath a low roof partly covered with mastic and partly with zinc; 11 window bays wide and three window bays deep. The middle building, number 8, has a width of three window bays, of which the middle one is treated as a risalite with entrance. Both flanking houses, number 6 and 10, each span four bays. In the latter mentioned houses the risalite with entrance is located in the second outermost window bay. The ground floor of the front facade and left side facade is clad with rusticated stone and is terminated by a stone string course. For the remainder, the facades are executed in fair-faced brickwork. Double doors with carved trumeau in the front facade; above these balconies of stone on volute consoles carved in stone. The principal floor windows in the risalites have slightly segmental arch cornices on consoles; the windows above feature moulded surrounds with ears and stucco cresting. Main cornice, decorated with carved leaf and egg mouldings; decorated blocks beneath the cornice. Most windows feature cast-iron window guards. The left side facade has blind niches in the end bays at the height of the third and fourth storeys, the surround of which is the same as that of the windows. This facade is treated as richly as the front facade. The rear facade is considerably more sober in character with partly still authentic four- and six-pane sash windows. Number 6 has on the rear a wooden veranda against the principal floor. Valuation.
Building of architectural-historical importance as a valuable example of rich eclectic residential development from the third quarter of the 19th century. As part of a symmetrically arranged group of three mansions and because of the relationship with the neighbouring rich building block Oranjestraat 4 from the same building period, it also has important ensemble and urban-development-wise value.
