Inleiding.
Winkelpand genaamd het Marishuis met bijbehorende ateliers uit 1916 in de stijl van de "Um-1800 Bewegung" ontworpen door de architect J. Duynstee. De voorgevel is opgenomen in de straatwand met aaneengesloten bebouwing. Omschrijving.
Pand op rechthoekige plattegrond bestaande uit kelder en drie bouwlagen. Hoewel het pand van oorsprong 17e eeuws is, werd het in 1916 dermate ingrijpend verbouwd dat van de oude structuur vrijwel niets meer is bewaard gebleven. De met natuursteen beklede voorgevel bezit ornamentiek in de stijl van de "Um-1800 Bewegung". De gevel heeft een tympaanvormige beëindiging en bezit een houten erkeruitbouw tegen de 1e verdieping. De meerhoekige bovenlichten van de balkondeuren op de 2e verdieping en de eveneens meerhoekige vensters zijn voorzien van glas-in-lood. De authentieke winkelpui heeft bovenlichten met kleine roedenverdeling. De natuurstenen pilasters aan weerszijden bezitten een gestileerd medaillon, omgeven door een gestileerde guirlande. Daarboven een fors reliëf in natuursteen van een pelikaan. In de penant is de signering van de architect aangebracht. Een kwartrond gebogen etalageraam vormt de overgang van winkel naar de ingang in het portiek. De rechterzijde van het portiek is bekleed met geglazuurde tegels. Het eveneens door J. Duynstee ontworpen winkelinterieur, geinspireerd op de Lodewijk XVI-stijl is deels bewaard gebleven. De oorspronkelijk in het pand gevestigde kunsthandel D. Sala en Zonen, verkocht veel werk van de Haagse School schilders de gebroeders Jacob, Matthijs en Willem Maris. In 1944 werden in opdracht van deze kunsthandel drie natuurstenen portretrelief van de gebroeders Maris in de voorgevel aangebracht. De reliefs zijn vervaardigd door J. Altorf. Waardering.

The facade has a tympanum-shaped termination and features a wooden bay window extension against the 1st storey. The polygonal fanlights of the balcony doors on the 2nd storey and the similarly polygonal windows are fitted with leaded glass. The authentic shop front has fanlights with small glazing bars. The natural stone pilasters on either side feature a stylised medallion, surrounded by a stylised garland. Above this a substantial relief in natural stone of a pelican. In the spandrel the architect's signature is inscribed. A quarter-round curved display window forms the transition from shop to the entrance in the vestibule. The right side of the vestibule is clad with glazed tiles. The shop interior, also designed by J. Duynstee and inspired by the Louis XVI style, has been partly preserved. The art dealership D. Sala and Sons, originally established in the building, sold much work by The Hague School painters, the brothers Jacob, Matthijs and Willem Maris. In 1944, on behalf of this art dealership, three natural stone portrait reliefs of the Maris brothers were incorporated into the front facade. The reliefs were created by J. Altorf. Valuation.
