Inleiding.
Voormalig bedrijfspand uit 1898 in sobere neo-gotische vormgeving, gebouwd als smederij en pakhuis in opdracht van de meestersmid Egbertus Beekman door de architect J.W. Bosboom. Het is gelijktijdig gebouwd met het als winkelpand annex showroom ontworpen pand Denneweg 56 van dezelfde architect, waarmee het in directe verbinding staat. De voorgevel is opgenomen in de straatwand met aaneengesloten bebouwing. Een ingrijpende restauratie en aanpassing van het interieur ten behoeve van het op de 1e verdieping gevestigde Filmhuis en het op de benedenverdieping gevestigde Theater Pepijn vond plaats in 1980 naar ontwerp van de architect S. Schamhart. NB. De moderne ijzeren buitentrap over drie bouwlagen tegen de linkeras van de voorgevel is van bescherming uitgesloten. Omschrijving.
Pand op rechthoekige plattegrond bestaande uit vier bouwlagen en kapverdieping, twee vensterassen breed met dubbele puntgevel onder een deels met pannen en deels met zink gedekte, samengestelde kap. De gevels zijn opgetrokken in schoon metselwerk. De boven de belendende percelen vrij gesitueerde zijgevels zijn blind. De twee vensterassen van de dubbele puntgevel aan de voorzijde bevatten op de begane grond getoogde inrijpoorten met geblokte bogen van rode baksteen en daarboven een reeks hijsluiken, gevat in hoge nissen met driepasbogen van rode baksteen met natuurstenen blokken. De puntgevels hebben hardstenen deklijsten. In de natuurstenen friezen boven de inrijpoorten en die van de derde bouwlaag en in de gepleisterde penant tussen de puntgevels waren oorspronkelijk reclameteksten voor de firma Beekman aangebracht. In the natural stone friezes above the entrance portals and those of the third storey and in the rendered spandrel between the gables advertising texts for the firm Beekman were originally placed.
