Inleiding.
Vrijstaand gedenkteken voor de hertog van Saxen-Weimar uit 1866 in neo-classicistische stijl naar ontwerp van de architect H.P. Vogel en de schilder-beeldhouwer J.Ph. Koelman. De uitvoering werd gerealiseerd door J. van den Brink voor de stenen onderdelen en P.J. Mansveld voor de gegoten bronzen onderdelen. Het monument bevindt zich aan de oostzijde van het Lange Voorhout. Omschrijving.
Gedenknaald van 15 meter hoog ter nagedachtenis aan Karel Bernard Hertog van Saxen-Weimar (1792-1862), schoonvader van prins Hendrik de Zeevaarder. Hij werd in 1848 commandant van het leger in Nederlands-Indie. Voor het ontwerp was H.P. Vogel verantwoordelijk voor de architectonische elementen en J.Ph. Koelman voor de ornamenten. Het monument bestaat uit een achthoekig piedestal en een achthoekige zuil, beide van grauwe Udelfanger steen. De zuil wordt bekroond door een bronzen wapentrofee. Het medaillon met beeltenis van de hertog en profil, de kransen van laurier- en eikebladeren en het wapenschild, alle boven het voetstuk gesitueerd, zijn eveneens in brons gegoten.
