Inleiding.
Het hofje van de 'Lammersstichting', gesticht in 1875 door D. en J.A. Lammers, is gebouwd door B.P. Schippers op een U-vormige plattegrond in eclectische stijl. Het vrijstaande bouwblok bestaat uit twee vleugels die rechthoekig van vorm zijn en in dezelfde lengterichting liggen. De kopgevels van de twee vleugels worden door een muur (Schelpstraat) met ingangspartij met elkaar verbonden.
Omschrijving.
Het hofje 'Lammersstichting' bestaat uit twee rechthoekige bouwblokken waarin totaal twintig woningen zijn ondergebracht. Elk bouwblok telt een bouwlaag onder een doorlopend met pannen gedekt zadeldak. Op de binnenplaats bevindt zich ondermeer groenaanleg met heggetjes; in het midden een hardstenen voet. Iedere woning is twee vensterassen breed, heeft aan de zijde van de binnenplaats een strokendeur met een tweeruits bovenlicht en een houten negenruitsschuifraam.
De gevels zijn in baksteen opgetrokken; de langsgevel aan de Cantaloupenburg heeft in het midden een ingang met zijdelings 5 blindnissen die met gele baksteen zijn dichtgezet. De tuitgevels aan de Schelpstraat zijn versierd in eclectische stijl met onder meer segmentbogen op pilasters afgesloten door nissen en gepleisterde hoeklisenen. Deze dragen een gecornist hoofdgestel. In de friezen staat de naam van de stichting (Dirk en Anthonia Lammers-Stichting) vermeld. In de omlijste geveltoppen medaillons met het bouwjaar 1875 erin. In de muur tussen beide kopgevels in, is een poort met lisenen en opzetstuk geplaatst.
Waardering.
Hofje cultuurhistorisch van belang als waardevol voorbeeld van een 19e-eeuws liefdadigheidshofje. Architectuurhistorisch van belang vanwege de eclectische vormgeving; hoofdvorm, detaillering en toegepast materiaal zijn gaaf.
