In 1936 gebouwde brugkazemat ter verdediging van de spoor- en verkeersbrug over de IJssel.
Gewapend betonnen brugkazemat in een verdieping, bewapend met kanon en mitrailleur, deel uitmakend van de verdediging Zutphen, in 1936 gebouwd ter verdediging van de twee daar aanwezige bruggen en voorzien van twee vuurrichtingen.
De brugkazemat Zutphen Zuid heeft vooral vanwege de relatief krachtige verdediging die er in de meidagen van 1940 is geboden tegen de overmacht van de bezetter, een cultuurhistorische waarde voor de geschiedenis van de Nederlandse verdediging- en verdedigingswerken, en is derhalve van monumentaal rijksbelang.

Description
Bridge casemate built in 1936 for the defence of the railway and traffic bridge over the IJssel.
Armed reinforced concrete bridge casemate in one storey, armed with cannon and machine gun, forming part of the defence of Zutphen, built in 1936 to defend the two bridges present there and equipped with two firing positions.
The Zutphen Zuid bridge casemate has, particularly because of the relatively strong defence it provided in the May days of 1940 against the overwhelming force of the occupier, cultural-historical value for the history of Dutch defence and defensive works, and is therefore of monumental national importance.
