Tussen de Lijnmarkt en de Oudegracht gelegen 17e eeuws hoekhuis met overbouwde werf aan de grachtzijde, bestaande uit twee bouwlagen, een kelder en een kap loodrecht op de straat.
De Lijnmarkt is oorspronkelijk een voortzetting van de Oudegracht, waarbij een aantal huizen onder de straat een kelder tot aan de werf hadden. Al in de middeleeuwen werden op de werf huizen gebouwd die tot aan het water werden uitgebreid.
Het huis Lijnmarkt 20 staat eveneens met de achtergevel aan het water, maar laat door middel van een arkade een onderdoorgang vrij. Het huis is vrij gaaf in zijn opzet en heeft een in blokkenpatroon gepleisterde lijstgevel die twee verdiepingen suggereert. Hierin bevinden zich 19e eeuwse schuifvenster en op de beganegrond een vroeg 20e eeuwse winkelpui. De rechter zijgevel is op dezelfde wijze uitgevoerd. De achtergevel is in 1943 vernieuwd, waarbij de oorspronkelijke indeling met arkade is gerespecteerd.
Het huis is van belang uit bouwhistorisch oogpunt en van groot historisch belang vanwege de achtergevel die waardevolle kenmerken vertoont voor het uiterlijk aspect ter plaatse. Het is een van de weinige op de Rijksmonumentenlijst ontbrekende huizen in de reeks huizen aan de Lijnmarkt oostzijde.

Description
A 17th century corner house located between the Lijnmarkt and the Oudegracht with an enclosed yard on the canal side, consisting of two storeys, a cellar and a roof truss structure perpendicular to the street.
The Lijnmarkt is originally a continuation of the Oudegracht, whereby a number of houses had a cellar beneath the street extending to the yard. Already in the Middle Ages, houses were built on the yard that extended to the water.
The house Lijnmarkt 20 also stands with the back facade to the water, but by means of an arcade it allows a passage underneath. The house is fairly intact in its layout and has a cornice-topped facade plastered in a block pattern that suggests two storeys. It contains 19th century sash windows and on the ground floor an early 20th century shopfront. The right side facade is executed in the same manner. The back facade was renewed in 1943, whereby the original layout with arcade was respected.
The house is important from an architectural historical point of view and of great historical importance because of the back facade which displays valuable characteristics for the visual appearance of the place. It is one of the few houses missing from the National Monument list in the series of houses on the east side of the Lijnmarkt.
