COURTINE III-IV MET MHEENPOORT, BRUG, KAZEMAT EN MUURRESTEN. Courtine met: - Nabij het midden van de wal, de voormalige Mheenpoort, thans een coupure tussen twee keermuren met schotbalksponningen. - Voor de poort over de gracht, een gemetselde boogbrug met én overspanning. - Aan de stadszijde, gedeeltelijk onder de brug en gedeeltelijk onder de coupure, een halfcirkelvormige gemetselde kazemat (ca. 1540) met aan de NW-zijde twee schietgaten. De kazemat is toegankelijk via een gemetselde trap en is voorzien van een tot boven de gronddekking opgemetselde ventilatie-schacht. Aan de ZO-zijde van de coupure, een restant van een ronde toren, toegankelijk via een gemetselde trap. - Aan de stadszijde van de Mheenpoort, resten van de middeleeuwse ommuring, te weten een rondeel in de as van de Smeesteeg en ca. 7 m. hoge muur tussen dat rondeel en de Mheenpoortstraat. Voorts op ca. 12 m. ten zuidoosten van die straat een ca. 7 m. hoge muur tot aan een rondeel in de as van de Schapesteeg, hoog ca. 12 m.; vandaar tot aan de ZO-grens van perceel C1673 fragmenten van een muur en een rondeel, beide tot oorspronkelijke hoogte aangevuld. - Voorliggende gracht ter breedte van ca. 20 m. nabij de Mheenpoort en oplopend tot ca. 30 m. nabij de bastions III en IV. Betrokken kadastrale percelen, Elburg nrs.: - C1482 ged. (hiervan slechts een strook ter breedte van ca. 1,50 m., gerekend van de grens met de percelen C622, C1671, C1394, C814 en C815); - C1484 ged. (hiervan slechts het deel tussen de percelen 1445-1481, 539-1106 en Oostwal-Noordwal); - C1488 ged. (hiervan slechts een strook ter breedte van ca. 1,50 m., gerekend van de grens met percelen C1673, C1674, C1648, C150 en C149); - C537, C539, C1106, C1108, C1445 ged., C1481 ged., C ongenummerd ged. (Noordwal) en C ongenummerd ged. (Oostwal).

Description
CURTAIN WALL III-IV WITH MHEEN GATE, BRIDGE, CASEMATE AND WALL REMAINS. Curtain wall with: - Near the middle of the wall, the former Mheen Gate, now a coupure between two retaining walls with sill beam sockets. - In front of the gate across the moat, a masonry arch bridge with one span. - On the town side, partially below the bridge and partially below the coupure, a semi-circular masonry casemate (c. 1540) with two gun embrasures on the NW side. The casemate is accessible via a masonry staircase and is provided with a ventilation shaft bricked up above the ground covering. On the SE side of the coupure, a remnant of a round tower, accessible via a masonry staircase. - On the town side of the Mheen Gate, remains of the medieval fortification, namely a roundel in the axis of Smeesteeg and a approximately 7 m. high wall between that roundel and Mheenpoortstraat. Furthermore approximately 12 m. southeast of that street an approximately 7 m. high wall to a roundel in the axis of Schapesteeg, approximately 12 m. high; from there to the SE boundary of plot C1673 fragments of a wall and a roundel, both made up to original height. - Preceding moat with a width of approximately 20 m. near the Mheen Gate and widening to approximately 30 m. near bastions III and IV. Involved cadastral plots, Elburg nos.: - C1482 part (of which only a strip approximately 1.50 m. wide, measured from the boundary with plots C622, C1671, C1394, C814 and C815); - C1484 part (of which only the part between plots 1445-1481, 539-1106 and Oostwal-Noordwal); - C1488 part (of which only a strip approximately 1.50 m. wide, measured from the boundary with plots C1673, C1674, C1648, C150 and C149); - C537, C539, C1106, C1108, C1445 part, C1481 part, C unnumbered part (Noordwal) and C unnumbered part (Oostwal).
