In 1882 naar ontwerp van A.C. Bleys gebouwde neogotische kapel, gesitueerd achter en in verbinding met het gelijktijdig uitgevoerde pand Lauriergracht 39 op een inpandig terrein in oorsprong bestemd voor het RK gesticht 'De Voorzienigheid'. De zes traveeën tellende kapel is opgetrokken in baksteen onder rood/bruin pannen zadeldak met afgewolfd schild boven het vijfzijdig gesloten koor, bekroond door een sierlijk gesmeed kruis en voorzien van steunberen, een tandlijst en spitsboogvensters, waarvan de vensters in het koor bovenin een vierpas hebben en de meeste met neutraal glas-in-lood gevuld zijn.
Inwendig bevat de kapel zeer slanke gietijzeren kolommen met bladkapitelen op achtzijdige sokkels. Deze kolommen dragen de spitsboogvormige scheibogen tussen middenschip en zijbeuken; voorts zijn half- en kwartzuilen in verwante vormen aangebracht. Het middenschip wordt overkapt door een houten, van vierpassen voorzien spitstongewelf met ijzeren ribben. De zijbeuken hebben kruisribgewelven. De U-vormige orgeltribune aan de korte Lauriergracht-zijde, bij de hoeken tevens ondersteund door ijzeren hoekprofielen met vierpasmotief, is uitgevoerd in hout en is bereikbaar door middel van een houten spiltrap aan de oostzijde. Zowel spiltrap als tribune hebben een gesneden balustrade met in oosterse vorm uitgewerkte spitsbogen.
In de oostwand van de kapel een dubbele biechtstoel en twee blindvensters. Alle deuren zijn gesneden paneeldeuren.
In oorsprong tot een katholieke, sociaal- educatieve stichting behorende kapel van neogotische architectuur met opmerkelijk materiaalgebruik en zorgvuldig gedetailleerde vormentaal, als zodanig van algemeen belang wegens architectuur- en cultuurhistorische waarde.
Rondom de kapel bevindt zich verder een lage galerij met daklichten waarvan het westelijk en het noordelijk deel tot het oorspronkelijk ontwerp hoorden, doch bij latere verbouwingen en uitbreidingen van het complex enigszins zijn gewijzigd. Deze onderdelen zijn van de bescherming uitgesloten.

Description
Neo-gothic chapel built in 1882 according to designs by A.C. Bleys, situated behind and in connection with the contemporary property Lauriergracht 39 on an internal site originally intended for the Roman Catholic institution 'De Voorzienigheid'. The chapel, counting six bays, is constructed in brick under red/brown tiled gabled roof with curved shield above the five-sided closed choir, topped by an ornamental wrought cross and provided with buttresses, a dentil moulding and pointed-arch windows, whereby the windows in the choir have a quatrefoil at the top and most are filled with neutral stained glass.
Interiorly the chapel contains very slender cast-iron columns with leaf capitals on octagonal plinths. These columns bear the pointed-arch braced collar ties between nave and aisles; furthermore half- and quarter-columns in related forms are applied. The nave is covered by a wooden pointed-arch barrel vault furnished with quatrefoils and iron ribs. The aisles have crossed-rib vaults. The U-shaped organ gallery on the short Lauriergracht side, at the corners also supported by iron angle profiles with quatrefoil motif, is executed in wood and is reached by means of a wooden spiral staircase on the east side. Both spiral staircase and gallery have a carved balustrade with pointed-arches worked out in oriental form.
In the east wall of the chapel a double confessional and two blind windows. All doors are carved panel doors.
Originally belonging to a Catholic, socially-educative institution, a chapel of neo-gothic architecture with remarkable use of materials and carefully detailed formal language, as such of general importance due to architectural and cultural-historical value.
Around the chapel is furthermore a low gallery with skylights, of which the western and northern parts belonged to the original design, but have been somewhat altered by later conversions and extensions of the complex. These components are excluded from protection.
