Omschrijving
Blijkens inwendige jaartalsteen in 1811 gebouwd of hersteld, in oorsprong mogelijk 17e-eeuws hoekpandje met woning, smederij en travalje, opgetrokken met een bouwlaag onder latere, met pannen gedekte en in het midden van een schoorsteen voorziene mansardekap met gepleisterde gevels en inwendig restanten van een houtskelet. Het woongedeelte bevat in de kopgevel aan de Kloosterstraat een negenruitsschuifvenster, rechts een keldervenster met luik en voorts twee gemoderniseerde vensters, alsmede staafankers; in de langere gevel aan de Naarderstraat twee negenruitsschuifvensters en rechts een gekruist muuranker. Het links van het woongedeelte aan de Naarderstraat gesitueerde smederijgedeelte met houten travalje - deels gewijzigd - bevat een door houten stijlen verdeelde wand met drie door het travalje overdekte smalle deuren en twee zesruitsbovenlichten; in de kopgevel aan de zijsteeg een negenruitsschuifvenster en een zij-ingang. Inwendig bevat de van een balken zoldering voorziene smederij, voor de vuurplaats, een zandstenen waterbak met jaartal (1811) en initialen-inscriptie (I.H.W.); de door twee haaks op elkaar staande bakstenen muren afgeschermde vuurplaats heeft een taps toelopende rookkap en een handbediende blaasbalg, deels van leer en met koperbeslag; voorts zijn nog de toebehoren voor het aldaar gevestigde (hoef)smederijbedrijf aanwezig. Op de travaljeluifel, aan de straatzijde ondersteund door vier houten stijlen met vernieuwde houten afscheiding, het geschilderde opschrift: "zolang er paarden bestaan, zal ik er hoefijzers onder slaan - Jan Melis". Vroeg 19e-eeuws, doch in oorsprong mogelijk ouder hoekpand met compleet ingericht, ambachtelijk smederijbedrijf met travalje en bijbehorende woning van belang wegens cultuur- en bedrijfshistorische waarde.

Description
Built or restored in 1811 according to an internal date stone, originally possibly a 17th-century corner cottage with dwelling, smithy and workshop, constructed with one storey beneath a later mansard roof covered with tiles and provided in the middle with a chimney, with plastered facades and internal remains of a timber-frame structure. The residential part contains in the gable facing Kloosterstraat a nine-pane sash window, to the right a cellar window with shutter and furthermore two modernised windows, as well as rod anchors; in the longer facade facing Naarderstraat two nine-pane sash windows and to the right a crossed ornamental wall anchor. The smithy part situated to the left of the residential part facing Naarderstraat with wooden workshop - partly altered - contains a wall divided by wooden posts with three narrow doors covered by the workshop and two six-pane fanlights; in the gable facing the side alley a nine-pane sash window and a side entrance. Internally the smithy, provided with a beamed ceiling, contains for the fireplace a sandstone water tank with date (1811) and initials inscription (I.H.W.); the fireplace screened off by two brick walls at right angles to each other has a tapering hood and a hand-operated bellows, partly of leather and with brass fittings; furthermore the equipment for the (farrier's) smithy business established there is still present. On the workshop awning, on the street side supported by four wooden posts with renewed wooden screening, the painted inscription: "as long as there are horses, I will shoe them - Jan Melis". Early 19th-century, but originally possibly older corner building with completely fitted-out, artisan smithy business with workshop and associated dwelling of significance due to cultural and industrial-historical value.
