"Huize van de Kasteele", belangrijk PATRICIERSHUIS, in oorsprong laatmiddeleeuws, in 1568 tot weeshuis ingericht, in 1733 aan de linkerzijde vergroot en verbouwd door Ludolf van Heeckeren. Sinds 1930 bejaardentehuis. Door een diepe tuin van het plein gescheiden rechthoekig pand met hoog schilddak, waarop hoekschoorstenen. Het muurwerk bestaat, behoudens het in 1733 aangebouwde linkerdeel, uit moppen. Rijke ingangspartij van zandsteen in Lod. XIV-stijl, eenvoudige, gesneden deuren, bordes met smeedijzeren hekken, gesneden bovenlicht. Boven de vensters van de verdieping lage frontons. Kroonlijst met spiegels en Lod. XIV-CONSOLES. Drie dakkapellen. Inwendig kelders, waarvan de zuidelijke met graatgewelven, kamer met gesneden deuren met dessus-de-portes (Lod. XVI), schouw met schilderstuk en geschilderd behang (XVIIId), balustertrap (XVIII B). Description
"House of the Kasteele", important PATRICIAN HOUSE, originally late medieval, converted into an orphanage in 1568, enlarged and rebuilt in 1733 on the left side by Ludolf van Heeckeren. Since 1930 old people's home. Separated from the square by a deep garden, rectangular building with high hipped roof, with corner chimneys. The masonry consists, apart from the left section built in 1733, of bond stone. Rich entrance section of sandstone in Louis XIV style, simple carved doors, steps with wrought iron railings, carved fanlight. Above the windows of the storey low pediments. Cornice with panels and Louis XIV consoles. Three roof dormers. Interior: cellars, of which the southern one with herringbone vaults, room with carved doors with overdoors (Louis XVI), mantelpiece with painted panel and painted wallpaper (late 18th century), balustrade staircase (second half of 18th century). The garden is separated from the 's-Gravenhof by a fine wrought iron fence with sandstone gate piers, crowned by ornamental urns, Louis XIV. To the right of this fence an approximately square garden house (first half of 19th century) under transverse hipped roof.
