GROTE OF ST. WALBURGISKERK.
In oorsprong romano-gotische kruisbasiliek (dertiende eeuw) met oudere crypt, van welke kerk de hoofdbeuk, middenkoor en het transept, alsmede de onderste vier geledingen van de toren nog over zijn. Tweede helft veertiende eeuw-1427 bouw van een kooromgang met krans van rechthoekige kapellen, even hoog als het middenkoor, Na 1392 raadskapel tegen de oostzijde van het koor gebouwd. Omstreeks midden vijftiende eeuw voltooiing van de verbouwing tot hallenkerk door vernieuwing van de zijbeuken. Toren met vijfde geleding verhoogd. Vierde kwart vijftiende eeuw kapellen in het verlengde der dwarsschipsarmen gebouwd. Noorderportaal met rijk versierde gevel tot stand gekomen. 1561-'63. Librije. Het middenschip heeft zesdelige, het koor en transept hebben vierdelige kruisgewelven met ronde ribben. In de latere uitbreidingen kruisgewelven met uitzondering van de dwarsschipskapellen en het noorderportaal die stergewelven bezitten.
Uitwendig; De toren is bekleed met natuursteen en versierd met getraceerde nissen en lisenen. In de westgevel romano-gotische ingang en daarboven drie lancetvensters. De kerk heeft een schilderachtige bedaking, uit talrijke afzonderlijke kappen bestaand, waarvan die boven de kruising een sierlijk torentje uit 1729 draagt. De toren had aanvankelijk een zeer hoge naaldspits en kreeg na een brand in tweede kwart zestiende eeuw, een houten bekroning van twee achtkanten. De kerk is gerestaureerd van 1890-1919 en na oorlogsschade van 1947 tot heden. In 1948 verbrandde de zeventiende eeuwse torenbekroning, waarbij ook de oude luiklokken verloren gingen. Zeer belangrijke schilderingen in de koorkapellen (ca. 1400 tot eerste kwart vijftiende eeuw) en op de gewelven (vierde kwart vijftiende eeuw-eerste helft zestiende eeuw), gerestaureerd en aangevuld eerste kwart twintigste eeuw.
Inventaris; smeedijzeren grafkroon met jachtvoorstellingen (vijftiende eeuw), rijke, koperen doopvont (Gielis van Eynde, 1527); kansel (ca.1670), grafmonument Van Heeckeren (1706); een romaanse (ca.1200) en vele latere zerken en in de librye kostbare verzameling handschriften en incunabelen op authentieke zestiende eeuwse lezenaars. a. Hoofdorgel. Van oorsprong orgel met Hoofdwerk, Rugwerk en vrij Pedaal, in 1643 gemaakt door H.H. Baeder. In 1813 ingrijpend gewijzigd door J.W. Timpe. Ombouw van de Hoofdkas tot een orgel met Hoofdwerk, Bovenwerk, Rugwerk en vrij Pedaal. b. Kabinetorgel, in 1813 gemaakt door J.A. Hillebrand.

GREAT OR ST. WALBURGIS CHURCH.
Originally Romanesque-gothic cruciform basilica (thirteenth century) with older crypt, of which church the main nave, central choir and the transept, as well as the lowest four tiers of the tower still remain. Second half of the fourteenth century-1427 construction of a choir ambulatory with wreath of rectangular chapels, as high as the central choir. After 1392 council chapel built against the east side of the choir. Around the middle of the fifteenth century completion of the conversion to hall church by renewal of the side aisles. Tower with fifth tier heightened. Fourth quarter of the fifteenth century chapels built in the extension of the transept arms. North portal with richly decorated facade created. 1561-'63. Library. The nave has six-part, the choir and transept have four-part cross vaults with round ribs. In the later extensions cross vaults with the exception of the transept chapels and the north portal which have star vaults.
Exterior; The tower is clad with natural stone and decorated with tracered niches and lisenes. In the west facade Romanesque-gothic entrance and above it three lancet windows. The church has a picturesque roof, consisting of numerous individual sections, of which that above the crossing carries a graceful little tower from 1729. The tower originally had a very high needle spire and received after a fire in the second quarter of the sixteenth century, a wooden crowning of two octagons. The church was restored from 1890-1919 and after war damage from 1947 to the present. In 1948 the seventeenth century tower crowning burned, whereby also the old roof bells were lost. Very important paintings in the choir chapels (c. 1400 to first quarter of the fifteenth century) and on the vaults (fourth quarter of the fifteenth century-first half of the sixteenth century), restored and supplemented in the first quarter of the twentieth century.
Inventory; wrought iron funeral crown with hunting scenes (fifteenth century), rich copper baptismal font (Gielis van Eynde, 1527); pulpit (c.1670), funeral monument Van Heeckeren (1706); a Romanesque (c.1200) and many later gravestones and in the library precious collection of manuscripts and incunabula on authentic sixteenth century lectterns. a. Main organ. Originally organ with Great, Back and free Pedal, made in 1643 by H.H. Baeder. In 1813 substantially modified by J.W. Timpe. Conversion of the Great case into an organ with Great, Swell, Back and free Pedal. b. Cabinet organ, made in 1813 by J.A. Hillebrand.
