Omschrijving
HOOFDGEBOUW.

Description
MAIN BUILDING. Two-storey main building constructed in red brick, partly cellared, block-shaped, under a grey tile-clad gabled roof with ample overhang. Originally the entrance to the house, which was erected in chalet style in 1851, was located centrally in the west facade. At the beginning of this century the entrance was relocated to the east facade. The panel door with oval window, centrally located in this facade, probably originates from the former entrance section on the west side. The architect of the house is unknown. On the basis of stylistic similarities with the Aardhuis (hunting lodge on the Crown Estate), which was designed around the same time by the architect of King William III, H.F.G.N. Camp, it is assumed that this architect also drew up the plans for the house De Veenkamp. Originally the house had an ornamental cornice and the windows were fitted with shutters (the latter shutters are stored in a barn at the house and await restoration). Between the ground floor and first floor, running around the house, there is a simple double string course, consisting of a double mortared brick layer. East facade: on either side of the front door, which is fitted with a single-glazed fanlight, two sash windows with 6-pane glazing. In the gable top a 4-pane sash window. North facade: on the ground floor on the left side a sash window with 6-pane glazing and on the right a window frame identical to the aforementioned window with a 20th-century 2-pane window. On the first floor on the right a window frame identical to the aforementioned window with 20th-century glazing in two panes and on the left a diamond-shaped privy window with 2-pane glazing. West facade: centrally a 20th-century double glazed door with 2-pane fanlight framed by pilasters with cornice: the framing of the former front door located here. To the right and left of this a sash window with 20th-century 2-pane glazing. On the first floor a double glazed door with 2-pane fanlight with on either side a sash window with 20th-century 2-pane glazing. In the gable top a 4-pane sash window. At the bottom of the facade on the left a hardstone plaque with the text: "The first stone was laid by Alexander Frederik Steers. Born 1 December 1847. 10 March 1851." South facade: on the ground floor on the left side a sash window with 20th-century 2-pane glazing and on the right side a door to the kitchen located behind, with oval panel, 4-pane window and 2-pane fanlight. On the first floor on the left and right a sash window with 20th-century 2-pane glazing.
