Poldermolen 'De Palen', gebouwd in 1876 door de Bedumer aannemer H. Klippius voor het Waterschap 'De Palen', doch wegens de aanleg van de spoorlijn Groningen-Delfzijl in 1882 verplaatst naar de huidige locatie, even ten oosten van het Westerwijtwerdermeer. In 1951 werd ten behoeve van de bemaling een electromotor geplaatst.
In ruim polderweidegebied op geelbakstenen overkluizing over een watergang gelegen achtkante met riet beklede houten bovenkruier op roodbakstenen voet; zelfzwichtende roeden met een gevlucht van 16.40 meter; vijzel en gaande werk zijn inwendig nog aanwezig.
Mooi gelegen poldermolen uit 1876 van belang wegens de geschiedenis van de Groninger polderbemaling in het algemeen en die van de polder 'De Palen' in het bijzonder; voorts vanwege de aanwezigheid van vijzel en gaand werk.

Description
Polder mill 'De Palen', built in 1876 by the Bedum contractor H. Klippius for the Water Board 'De Palen', but due to the construction of the railway line Groningen-Delfzijl in 1882 relocated to the present location, just east of the Westerwijtwerdermeer. In 1951 an electric motor was installed for the purpose of drainage.
Situated in extensive polder meadowland on yellow brick culvert over a waterway, eight-sided timber superstructure with thatched roof on red brick foundation; self-regulating sails with a span of 16.40 metres; screw pump and internal machinery are still present.
Attractive polder mill from 1876 of significance because of the history of Groningen polder drainage in general and that of the polder 'De Palen' in particular; furthermore because of the presence of screw pump and internal machinery.
