Omschrijving
Portugese Synagoge. Op door lage dienstwoningen (zie Rapenburgerstraat 195, 199 en J.D. Meyerplein 5) t.w.z. van een ingangspoort omgeven pleintje gelegen rechthoekig gebouw onder schilddak (1671-1675 door Daniel Stalpaert en Elias Bouman), de gevels geleed door lisenen en bekroond door zandstenen lijst met balustrade. Zandstenen deuromlijsting. Inwendig: driebeukig, met houten tongewelven op architraven, gedragen door zandstenen ionische zuilen. Galerijen, eveneens op ionische zuilen. Gehele inrichting (ark, biema banken, koperen kronen, kandelaars enz.) uit de bouwtijd bewaard. Zeldzaam gaaf complex.

Description
Portuguese Synagogue. Situated on a small square surrounded by low service dwellings (see Rapenburgerstraat 195, 199 and J.D. Meyerplein 5) namely by an entrance gate, rectangular building under hipped roof (1671-1675 by Daniel Stalpaert and Elias Bouman), the facades articulated by pilasters and crowned by sandstone cornice with balustrade. Sandstone door frame. Interior: three-aisled, with wooden barrel vaults on architraves, supported by sandstone Ionic columns. Galleries, likewise on Ionic columns. Entire furnishings (ark, bima, benches, copper crowns, candelabra etc.) preserved from the time of construction. Exceptionally well-preserved complex.
