Omschrijving
Segment van verdedigingswerk vesting Gorinchem, deel uitmakend van de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie. Het werk bestaat uit een aanleg van aardwerken en bijbehorende bebouwing en objecten zoals hierna genoemd.
De aanleg vormt een onderdeel van de noordwestelijke verdedigingswal van Gorinchem en omvat de restanten van de courtine tussen bastion II en bastion III.
Ter plaatse van de voormalige Kanselpoort bevindt zich een coupure in de courtine, bestaande uit twee gemetselde keermuren. Op de courtine bevindt zich een houten schotbalkenloods. De schotbalken konden gebruikt worden voor zowel de Grote Sluis in het Merwedekanaal als de hierna genoemde grondduiker. In de courtine bevindt zich eveneens de gemetselde inlaat van een grondduiker.

Description
Segment of defensive work of fortification Gorinchem, part of the New Holland Water Line. The work consists of an installation of earthworks and associated buildings and objects as named hereafter.
The installation forms part of the north-west defensive wall of Gorinchem and comprises the remains of the curtain between bastion II and bastion III.
At the location of the former Kanselpoort is a coupure in the curtain, consisting of two masoned retaining walls. On the curtain is a wooden blockage-beam shed. The blockage beams could be used for both the Grote Sluis in the Merwedekanaal and the ground culvert named hereafter. In the curtain is also located the masoned intake of a ground culvert.
