Omschrijving
DOMKERKCOMPLEX. Domkerk, sacristie en librie. Ned. Herv. Kerk, voorheen St. Maartenskerk. Nooit geheel voltooide kruisbasiliek waarvan schip in 1674 door orkaan werd vernietigd. In 1254 eerste steen gelegd voor het koor door Bisschop Hendrik van Vianden, ter vervanging van Romaanse Kathedraal. Tegen eind 13e eeuw omgang met vijf straalkapellen voltooid. Omstreeks 1300 volgens gewijzigd plan de zuiderzijbeuk van het koor met twee aangrenzende kapellen. Vervolgens driemaal gewijzigd plan noorderzijbeuk van koor met kapel tot stand gebracht. Dit derde plan strekte tot leidraad tijdens de volgende bouwperioden welke zijn beëindiging vond in het 15e eeuws verdwenen schip. Eind 14e eeuw werk aan de kerk hervat. 2e helft 14e eeuw oostelijke en zuidelijke arm kloostergang met portaal(apart monumentnummer 36077) en zo. zijde van koor. Tijdens de 15e eeuw kwam dwarsschip bij de w. vleugel van de kloostergang en de kapittelzaal (thans aula) (apart monumentnummer 36076) tot stand. In 1480 ging men over tot bouw van vijfbeukig schip met kapellen. In 1495 sacristie oostwaarts uitgebreid. Omstreeks 1517 was het middenschip onder de kap doch bleef onvoltooid. In 1674 verwoestte een orkaan het middenschip. Restauraties hadden behalve in de 19e eeuw het laatst aan de kerk van 1921 tot 1938 plaats. De kloostergang van 1876-1897 en 1962 hersteld. De toren 1901-1931. Tot de inventaris behoren o.a. beeldhouwwerken. kapitelen en basementen. Muurschilderingen, w.o. Christus aan het kruis (plm 1430) in de Avenneskapel. Tapijtschilderingen op de pijlers. In de kooromgang onttakeld Heilig Graf. Beschadigde altaarretabel. Tomben voor de bisschoppen Guy van Avennes, Jan van Arkel en Joris van Egmond door Romb. Verhulst. Marmer en tombe voor de Admiraal van Gendt (1676). Laatgotisch poortje met gebeeldhouwde herstelde deur naar sacristie. Overblijfselen renaissance koorgestoelte. Gebeeldhouwde borstweringen. a. Hoofdorgel. In 1831 gemaakt met Hoofdwerk, Bovenwerk, Rugwerk en vrij Pedaal door J. Batz. In 1975 gerestaureerd door de firma Van Vulpen. b. Koororgel. DOM CHURCH COMPLEX. Dom Church, sacristy and library. Dutch Reformed Church, formerly St. Martin's Church. Never completely finished cruciform basilica of which the nave was destroyed in 1674 by a hurricane. In 1254 first stone laid for the choir by Bishop Hendrik van Vianden, to replace the Romanesque Cathedral. By the end of the 13th century ambulatory with five radiating chapels completed. Around 1300 according to modified plan the south aisle of the choir with two adjacent chapels. Subsequently three times modified plan north aisle of choir with chapel brought into being. This third plan served as guide during the following building periods which found its completion in the 15th century disappeared nave. End of 14th century work on the church resumed. 2nd half of 14th century eastern and southern arm of cloister walk with portal (separate monument number 36077) and south side of choir. During the 15th century transept came at the west wing of the cloister walk and the chapter house (now aula) (separate monument number 36076) into being. In 1480 work began on five-aisle nave with chapels. In 1495 sacristy extended eastward. Around 1517 the central nave was under the roof but remained unfinished. In 1674 a hurricane destroyed the central nave. Restorations took place except in the 19th century most recently on the church from 1921 to 1938. The cloister walk restored in 1876-1897 and 1962. The tower 1901-1931. The inventory includes among others sculptures, capitals and bases. Wall paintings, including Christ on the Cross (circa 1430) in the Avennes Chapel. Tapestry paintings on the pillars. In the choir ambulatory disassembled Holy Sepulchre. Damaged altar retable. Tombs for the bishops Guy van Avennes, Jan van Arkel and Joris van Egmond by Romb. Verhulst. Marble and tomb for the Admiral van Gendt (1676). Late Gothic doorway with carved restored door to sacristy. Remains of renaissance choir stalls. Carved breast walls. a. Main organ. Made in 1831 with Great Organ, Upper Organ, Rückpositiv and free Pedal by J. Batz. In 1975 restored by the firm Van Vulpen. b. Choir organ. Cabinet organ, made in 1790 by G.T. Batz. c. Transept organ. Positif made circa 1680 by Apollonius Bosch. In 1988 restored and placed in a new case by the firm Van Vulpen.
