Omschrijving
PARKAANLEG.
(o.a. Pinus nigra).

Description
PARK LAYOUT. The component parts of the park layout are situated as follows: A. The largest part of this terrain to the east of the house is pastureland, bounded by ditches. Parallel to the boundary ditch in the north-east corner of the pastureland runs the drive with entrance gate.
The paved lane planted with beech trees (Fagus sylvatica) dates from the 18th century. A number of beeches have been deliberately felled: in this way sight lines have been created for sight axes from the house. At the end of the drive is a gate, giving access to the open pastureland. A number of cross-ditches intersect the terrain. The spatial significance of the pastureland as a compositional element has remained unchanged since the 17th century.
B. The part of the terrain at the rear and side of the main building.
This part can be divided into the park woodland section and the former kitchen garden section, with the two service dwellings and the coach house to the north-west of the main building.
Park woodland section. The structure of the park woodland section dates from the late 18th, early 19th century and consists of an elongated winding pond, around which a lane system has been laid out. The water courses present in the wood and the location of the former small bridges (now replaced by dams) are almost entirely part of this layout. The terrain could be viewed both by boat and on foot.
Along the winding paths, oak trees (Quercus robur L.) have been planted at regular intervals, characteristic of the period of creation of the layout in early landscape style, late 18th, early 19th century. In some places the regularity has been interrupted to provide views of the water feature or special tree groups.
In this way various vistas with sight axes have been realized. The sections within the lane structure are planted with ash trees (Fraxinus excelsior L.), birches (Betula pendula Roth) and others. In the wood are two ponds. The pond with the island belongs to the early 19th-century layout. Two very striking old linden trees (Tilia x europea L.) stand on opposite shores in the narrow part of this pond. The rising banks are further planted with chestnuts (Aesculus hippocastanum L.), swamp cypresses (Taxodium distichum L.), rhododendrons and conifers (including Pinus nigra). There is also yew (taxus baccata L.) and a special group of old linden trees (Tilia x europea).
The second pond dates from the third quarter of this century.
The old pond and the bank planting, which provide a very varied appearance in form, height and colour (intentionally designed), are clearly visible from the house.
Kitchen garden section. To the north-west of the main building is an almost square parcel of grassland, bounded by ditches (dug in irregular form). The course of the ditches is interrupted at various places by dams, presumably at the locations where wooden small bridges have been. From the 17th century onwards this terrain was used as a kitchen garden and orchard, for several decades of this century also as a flower and shrub garden. A now disappeared very old chestnut avenue bisected the terrain in a north-south direction.
Walking paths have been laid out around the kitchen garden section, forming part of the layout in the woodland section. Looking north-westerly from the house, swamp cypresses (taxodium distichum L.), plane trees (Platanus acerifolia (Ait) Wildd), chestnuts (Aesculus hippocastanum L.) and rhododendron groups are to be seen, which have been planted mainly in this century on the banks of the waterway and on the outer edge of the terrain.
The park layout of the Ipenrode terrain has retained the lane structure. This is evident from the fact that two sections of lanes, which once had a continuation on terrains bordering Ipenrode, are still visible in the south-western corner of the woodland section and in the north-western part behind the service dwelling.
