WALMUREN EN LANTARENS VAN HET BASTION. Het bastion wordt omvat door uit de grachten oprijzende bakstenen walmuren (vierde kwart zeventiende eeuw); aan de oost-, zuid- en westzijde worden deze bekroond door bakstenen borstweringen, die door pijlers met natuurstenen dekplaten worden geleed en aan de zuidzijde terwille van de doorgang naar het voorplein over de tweede brug in de oprijweg worden onderbroken; deze doorgang wordt geflankeerd door pijlers, waarop achthoekige gekroonde lantarens op smeedijzeren voetstukken met vier langgerekte voluten (eerste kwart twintigste eeuw). Aan de noordzijde staan op de walmuren te weerszijden van de daar aanwezige poort eveneens door pijlers met natuurstenen dekplaten gelede muren, die door erin aangebrachte schietgaten de illusie van weerbaarheid moeten oproepen.

Description
RAMPART WALLS AND LANTERNS OF THE BASTION. The bastion is enclosed by brick rampart walls rising from the moats (fourth quarter seventeenth century); on the east, south and west sides these are crowned by brick breastworks articulated by pillars with natural stone cappings and on the south side interrupted for the sake of passage to the forecourt over the second bridge in the approach road; this passage is flanked by pillars on which stand octagonal crowned lanterns on wrought-iron bases with four elongated volutes (first quarter twentieth century). On the north side there stand on the rampart walls on either side of the gate present there also walls articulated by pillars with natural stone cappings, which by means of gun loops incorporated in them are to give the illusion of defensibility.
