Description

ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH of St. Michael, of which the nave is early Romanesque, 11th century, and on the north side shows tuff stonework with the restored original arched windows with plastered external reveals. The southern nave wall is of brick and contains largely large Gothic pointed arch windows, likewise with plastered reveals. The nave has a wooden vault.

The early 16th century choir is higher than the nave, has simple twice-diminished buttresses, in the closing gable rising above the nave, decorated with a roll moulding, a notched cornice. Nineteenth century white cast-iron tracery in the choir windows. The flat-faced tower, originally still 13th century, was heightened and faced circa 1500 and is crowned by a low tent roof. In the choir net vaults with moulded ribs on finely dressed corbels (two of them original). The old furnishings, altar and organ from circa 1700, are now in the church of Bokhoven. Bell frame with bell by Henricus and Everardus Petit, 1787, diam. 60.5 cm. Restoration completed 1958. Low churchyard wall on the east side and (partially) west side with saddle-back coping and stone coping on the corners. Iron access gates on the east side with four gate piers on plinth, crowned by stone coping.
