Omschrijving
Omwalling (stadswallen en stadsgrachten tot de buitenste oevers Noord en Zuidspui met oevers en kaden). De vestingwerken van Brielle met bastions en ravelijnen dateren in hun huidige gedaante uit eerste helft achttiende eeuw. Van de poorten zijn slechts bewaard gebleven de Lange Poort aan de Noordwestzijde en de Kaaipoort aan de zuid-oostzijde van de stad. Het zijn eenvoudige, tunnelachtige doorgangen in de wallen, overkluisd door een tongewelf tussen twee graatgewelven en met een simpele baksteenarchitectuur als omlijsting van de doorgangen. Van de M.E. Noordpoort zijn in een bastion aan Noordzijde van het Maarland in 1923 de funderingen en enkele muurresten ontgraven. Door deze poort trokken in 1572 de Watergeuzen de stad binnen.

Description
Ramparts (city walls and city moats to the outer banks of the North and South channels with banks and quays). The fortifications of Brielle with bastions and ravelins date in their present form to the first half of the eighteenth century. Of the gates only the Lange Poort on the north-west side and the Kaaipoort on the south-east side of the city have been preserved. They are simple, tunnel-like passages in the walls, vaulted with a barrel vault between two groin vaults and with simple brick architecture as framing of the passages. Of the medieval North Gate, the foundations and some wall remains were excavated in 1923 in a bastion on the north side of the Maarland. Through this gate the Water Beggars entered the city in 1572.
