Omschrijving
Begraafplaats "Groenesteeg" en aula.
De begraafplaats ligt op een bolwerk aan de ZO.-zijde van de oude stad op de hoek van de Zijlsingel en de Nieuwe Rijn.
Het in eclectische trant opgetrokken aulagebouw dateert uit het derde kwart van de 19e eeuw en is ontworpen door de stadsbouwmeester Salomon van der Paauw.
Gepleisterd rechthoekig gebouw met verdieping en flauw hellend zadeldak. Veelhoekige pilasters op de hoeken, waaromheen de cordonlijst en de kroonlijst zijn omgekornist.
Getoogde inrijdeur en zijvensters, evenals de overige vensters, die rechthoekig zijn met afgeschuinde hoeken, voorzien van geprofileerde lijsten op kleine consoles.
De vensters, voorzover niet blind, hebben zesruitsschuiframen.
Naast de aula een ijzeren toegangshek met hardstenen obeliskvormige pijlers.

Cemetery "Groenesteeg" and chapel.
The cemetery lies on a bulwark on the SE side of the old city at the corner of the Zijlsingel and the Nieuwe Rijn.
The chapel building erected in eclectic style dates from the third quarter of the 19th century and was designed by the city architect Salomon van der Paauw.
Plastered rectangular building with storey and gently sloping gabled roof. Polygonal pilasters on the corners, around which the string course and cornice have been cornered.
Arched entrance gateway and side windows, as well as the other windows, which are rectangular with bevelled corners, provided with moulded lists on small consoles.
The windows, insofar as not blind, have six-pane sash windows.
Next to the chapel an iron entrance gate with hardstone obelisk-shaped pillars.
