Omschrijving
Broederpoort. Een in 1465 gebouwd en in 1615 door Thomas Berendsz in sierlijke renaissancevormen verbouwd bakstenen bouwwerk met natuurstenen sierdelen. Het bestaat uit een rechthoekig poortgedeelte onder hoog schilddak met op elk der vier hoeken een slanke en spits gedekte toren. Aan de stadszijde is de poortdoorgang spitsbogig en wordt het middenstuk bekroond door een topgevel met rolwerk en worden de beide aan de onderzijde ronde torens halverwege door middel van halfcirkelvormige overkragingen tienhoekig; de doorgang is gewijzigd blijkens moeten van een gewelf en blijkens de gemetselde brede toog met sluitsteen, 1784 gedateerd, aan de landzijde.

Description
Broederpoort. A brick structure built in 1465 and in 1615 remodelled in elegant Renaissance forms by Thomas Berendsz, with ashlar ornamental elements. It consists of a rectangular gate section under high hipped roof with at each of the four corners a slender and sharply peaked tower. On the city side the gate passage is pointed-arched and the middle section is crowned by a stepped gable with scrollwork, and the two towers with round bases at the bottom become decagonal halfway up by means of semi-circular corbels; the passage has been altered as evidenced by the remains of a vault and as evidenced by the brick broad arch with voussoir, dated 1784, on the country side.
