Omschrijving
Nieuwe Toren. De toren werd gebouwd tussen 1648 en 1664 en bestaat uit een onderbouw op vierkante grondslag en een achtzijdig bovendeel met open koepel, bekroond door een peer met smeedijzeren kruis. De onderbouw wordt door natuurstenen lijsten in drie geledingen verdeeld; in de onderste geleding een poortdoorgang met rijke natuurstenen omlijsting aan de oostzijde en aan de westzijde boven de sluitsteen voorzien van het door twee leeuwen gehouden stadswapen; in de beide overige geledingen rondbogige vensters en natuurstenen hoek- en negblokken. Boven de derde geleding een omgang met gebeeldhouwde natuurstenen balustraden. In de koepel klokkenspel, waarvan 29 klokken gegoten door F. Hemony 1659/62; 4 door G. van Wou 1481/83 en 1 door K. Description
Nieuwe Toren. The tower was built between 1648 and 1664 and consists of a base structure on square plan and an eight-sided superstructure with open cupola, crowned by a pear with wrought-iron cross. The base structure is divided by natural stone mouldings into three storeys; in the lowest storey a passage doorway with rich natural stone moulding on the east side and on the west side above the keystone provided with the city arms held by two lions; in the two remaining storeys round-arch windows and natural stone corner and angle blocks. Above the third storey a walkway with carved natural stone balustrades. In the cupola carillon, of which 29 bells cast by F. Hemony 1659/62; 4 by G. van Wou 1481/83 and 1 by K. Wegewaert 1627.
