Omschrijving
- heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als een bijzonder voorbeeld van een laat 15de-eeuws of vroeg 16e-eeuws woonhuis met wijzigingen uit de volgende eeuwen;
- is van belang vanwege de bijzondere bewonings- en gebruiksgeschiedenis;
- is van architectuurhistorisch belang vanwege de voor de verschillende (ver)bouwtijden kenmerkende vormgeving en detaillering alsmede vanwege het materiaalgebruik;
- is van architectuurhistorisch belang vanwege de samenhang (op onderdelen) tussen ex- en interieur;

Description
Description
"BUILDING, known as the 'Poorhouse', built at the end of the fifteenth or the beginning of the sixteenth century. The house was donated to the city of Hasselt by the heirs of Joachim Hendrik Adolf van Rechteren tot Rechteren in 1773-1775 and taken into use in 1777 as an orphanage and poorhouse. The building, constructed in red brick (partly rendered), on a rectangular ground plan, consists of a front house and a cellared rear house. The building is two storeys high and provided with a mansard roof. The side and rear facades date from the time of construction. The front facade was replaced around 1778 (the facade is provided with a composite facade stone with the inscription 'Het Armen en Weezenhuis. Anno 1778', the municipal coat of arms of Hasselt and an alliance coat of arms) and the upper section again in the second half of the nineteenth century. The facades are provided with a large number of building traces, including a large number of cloister windows. In the front facade are (reused) 18th-century frames and windows. The original hipped or gabled roof was changed to a mansard roof in the nineteenth century. The roof is covered with red and some blocked old Dutch tiles. In the interior are, among other things, of importance: the cellar with cross-rib vaults, the floor joists, the roof truss structure, the hearth in the front room on the storey, the stairs and the layout of the storey consisting of timber walls.
Valuation
The BUILDING is of general interest on account of its cultural-historical, architectural-historical and ensemble value. The house:
- has cultural-historical value as a particularly fine example of a late 15th-century or early 16th-century dwelling house with modifications from subsequent centuries;
- is of significance on account of its particular occupation and use history;
- is of architectural-historical significance on account of the characteristic design and detailing for the various (re)building periods as well as on account of the use of materials;
- is of architectural-historical significance on account of the connection (in parts) between exterior and interior;
- is furthermore of significance on account of the recognisability and the high degree of integrity of the exterior and some components of the interior."
