Omschrijving
Huis Groot Essenburg. Waarschijnlijk in de dertiende eeuw gesticht goed, waarvan het huis in zijn huidige vorm dateert uit 1652 en verbouwd werd in 1767. Bouwwerk op rechthoekige plattegrond, gedekt door twee parallel lopende schilddaken met schoorstenen en aan de voor- en achterzijde torenvormige middenpartijen met peervormige spitsen. Bij een verbouwing 1929 werden de negentiende-eeuwse schuiframen vervangen door kruiskozijnen in quasi-zeventiende-eeuwse vorm, terwijl ook de ingangspartij bedorven werd. Sedert 1950 wordt het huis bewoond door Premonstratenzers. Toegang tot het voorplein verleent een gemetselde boogbrug met balustrade (achttiende eeuw) en smeedijzeren hek, afkomstig van het voormalige kasteel Bekenburg, waarvan afkomend sloopmateriaal ook gebruikt zou zijn bij de verbouwing van 1767.

Description
House Groot Essenburg. Probably a manor founded in the thirteenth century, of which the house in its present form dates from 1652 and was rebuilt in 1767. Building on rectangular ground plan, covered by two parallel hipped roofs with chimneys and on the front and rear sides tower-shaped central sections with pear-shaped spires. During a rebuild in 1929 the nineteenth-century sash windows were replaced by cross windows in quasi-seventeenth-century form, while the entrance section was also spoilt. Since 1950 the house has been occupied by Premonstratensians. Access to the forecourt is provided by a brick arch bridge with balustrade (eighteenth century) and wrought-iron gate, originating from the former castle Bekenburg, of which demolition material is also said to have been used during the rebuild of 1767.
