Inleiding
R.K. KERK van de H. Teresia van Avila met voormalige PASTORIE onder één kap met de kerk tegen het priesterkoor. De kerk is gebouwd in 1839-1841 naar ontwerp van T.F. Suys in neoclassicistische stijl, met neobarok interieur, ter plaatse van de in 1649 geopende, in 1807 tot statie verheven kapel van de Spaanse legatie. De huidige polychromie van het kerkinterieur dateert van de restauratie welke in 1992 gereed kwam en is min of meer een reconstructie van de oorspronkelijke beschildering.
Omschrijving
Neoclassicistische HALLEKERK met drie beuken en Jonische zuilen met rondboogarcaden. De gepleisterde voorgevel wordt geleed door pilasters en bezit een middenrisaliet met fronton. Vierkante toren boven de voorgevel. De kerk is overdekt door gestucadoorde houten kruisribgewelven. Aan weerszijden van het koor een diplomatenkapel.
De oorspronkelijke inventaris in neobarokke stijl, geleverd door Belgische ateliers, is nog integraal aanwezig. Daartoe behoren onder meer: het hoogaltaar uit 1841 door de Leuvense beeldhouwer Charles Geerts, met beelden van Maria en Teresia aan weerszijden en een altaarstuk met voorstelling van de Kruisiging door L.J. Mathieu uit 1844, twee engelenbeelden in stucwerk boven het hoogaltaar, twee zijaltaren (1870-1871), communiebank (1898 uit het atelier Van Mierlo te Borgelhout, rijk gesneden preekstoel (1848, door Charles Geerts) met beeldengroep onder de kuip, voorstellend "Laat de kinderen tot mij komen" en andere beelden, orgelkas in neobarokke stijl door Charles Geerts (1851), het instrument van Francois-Bernard Loret te Mechelen in de trant van de Cavaille-Coll-orgels, kruiswegstaties van Anton Brouwer uit 1871-1873, gecopieerd op doek in 1914, een reeks gebrandschilderde ramen in grisailleglas met voorstellingen van de twaalf apostelen (atelier Van Straten, 1916 en volgende jaren), biechtstoelen in neobarokke stijl uit ca. 1875, koperen lichtarmaturen tegen de pijlers en zijwanden. In de laatste travee van het kerkgebouw aan de oostzijde is de PASTORIE gevestigd. De achtergevel heeft vijf vensterassen met meerruitsvensters en een centrale entreepartij.

Introduction
ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH of H. Teresia of Avila with former RECTORY under one roof with the church against the priestly choir. The church was built in 1839-1841 after a design by T.F. Suys in neoclassicist style, with neo-baroque interior, on the site of the chapel of the Spanish legation opened in 1649, elevated to a station in 1807. The current polychromy of the church interior dates from the restoration which was completed in 1992 and is more or less a reconstruction of the original paintwork.
Description
Neoclassicist HALL CHURCH with three aisles and Ionic columns with round-arch arcades. The plastered front facade is articulated by pilasters and features a central risalit with pediment. Square tower above the front facade. The church is covered by stuccoed wooden cross-rib vaults. On either side of the choir a diplomats' chapel.
The original inventory in neo-baroque style, supplied by Belgian workshops, is still entirely present. These include: the high altar from 1841 by the Louvain sculptor Charles Geerts, with figures of Maria and Teresia on either side and an altarpiece depicting the Crucifixion by L.J. Mathieu from 1844, two angel figures in stucco above the high altar, two side altars (1870-1871), communion rail (1898 from the Van Mierlo workshop in Borgelhout, richly carved pulpit (1848, by Charles Geerts) with figure group beneath the tester, depicting "Let the children come unto me" and other figures, organ case in neo-baroque style by Charles Geerts (1851), the instrument by Francois-Bernard Loret of Mechelen in the manner of Cavaille-Coll organs, Stations of the Cross by Anton Brouwer from 1871-1873, copied on canvas in 1914, a series of stained-glass windows in grisaille glass depicting the twelve apostles (Van Straten workshop, 1916 and following years), confessionals in neo-baroque style from ca. 1875, copper light fittings against the piers and side walls. In the last bay of the church building on the east side the RECTORY is housed. The rear facade has five window bays with multi-pane windows and a central entrance section.
