Omschrijving
V.M. ST.CATHARINAGASTHUIS, thans Gemeentelijk Museum en Archief. Groot GEBOUWENCOMPLEX (XIV-XVI; vergroot in 1619). Aan de Oosthaven pand van vijf vensterassen met bakstenen pilastergevel waarop fronton met oeil-de-boeuf en festoenen en hoog schilddak met hoekschoorstenen (1665).
Hardstenen plint, vensters met Empire-ramen en stoep met hekjes. Achter dit gedeelte de vroegere ziekenzalen met in de gevels aan de Molenwerf jaartalstenen: 1542 en 1631, ten dele verbouwd XIX en thans in restauratie.
Aan de noordzijde van dit complex de v.m.gasthuiskapel, een eenbeukige ruimte met driezijdig koor (XIV) en laat-gotisch houten tongewelf met trekbalken, sinds 1891 in gebruik als Gemeentelijk Archief en Librye. Gerestaureerd 1955-'57.
De puntgevel aan de Oosthaven (1665) heeft een poort met Jonische pilasters en gebogen fronton, waarin stadswapen, waarboven een groot rondboogvenster.

Description
FORMER ST.CATHARINAGASTHUIS, now Municipal Museum and Archive. Large COMPLEX OF BUILDINGS (14th-16th century; enlarged in 1619). On the Oosthaven building of five window-axes with brick pilaster gable on which pediment with oeil-de-boeuf and festoons and high hipped roof with corner chimneys (1665).
Hardstone plinth, windows with Empire windows and stoop with railings. Behind this section the former sickrooms with in the gables on the Molenwerf dated stones: 1542 and 1631, partly rebuilt 19th century and now in restoration.
On the north side of this complex the former hospital chapel, a single-aisle space with three-sided choir (14th century) and late Gothic wooden barrel vault with roof ties, since 1891 in use as Municipal Archive and Library. Restored 1955-'57.
The pointed gable on the Oosthaven (1665) has a door with Ionic pilasters and curved pediment, in which city coat of arms, above which a large round-arch window.
