Omschrijving
Complex van gebouwen rondom de voormalige Hortus bestaande uit drie vleugels zijnde:
1. Hoofdgebouw (1869) en aan iedere zijde een bijgebouw van de gemeentelijke psychiatrische inrichting aan de Academiestraat. Hoofdgebouw vijftien traveeën breed met in het midden ingangspartij met fronton. Westelijk bijgebouw zeven traveeën breed met in de zijgevel herplaatste gevelstenen afkomstig uit het complex. Ervoor decoratief smeedijzeren hek. Oostelijk bijgebouw drie traveeën breed.
2. Aan de oostzijde loodrecht op het hoofdgebouw de voormalige oranjerie (1650) van de Academie. Pilastergevel met geblokte vensteromlijstingen en poort.
3. Aan de westzijde loodrecht op het hoofdgebouw een vleugel en restantvleugel van het voormalige middeleeuwse Kruisbroederklooster. In het klokkentorentje een klokje van Geert van Wou (1548).

Description
Complex of buildings around the former Hortus consisting of three wings namely:
1. Main building (1869) and on each side an outbuilding of the municipal psychiatric institution on Academiestraat. Main building fifteen bays wide with entrance section with pediment in the centre. Western outbuilding seven bays wide with gable stones relocated in the side gable originating from the complex. Decorative wrought-iron fence in front. Eastern outbuilding three bays wide.
2. On the east side perpendicular to the main building the former orangery (1650) of the Academy. Pilastered gable with rusticated window surrounds and gateway.
3. On the west side perpendicular to the main building a wing and remnant wing of the former medieval Cruciferous Brothers convent. In the small bell tower a bell by Geert van Wou (1548).
