Omschrijving
Douanepaal. Hardstenen paal, versierd met in reliëf het wapen van de Admiraliteit van de Maze te Rotterdam; twee gekruiste ankers, bedekt door een schild met klimmende leeuw, gedekt door een kroon. Aan de voet van het schild driehoeksgewijze drie letters P (= pugno pro patria). Deze paal, aan de oude grensweg naar Weet, dat tot de Spaanse, later Oostenrijkse Nederlanden behoorde, is de enige in Budel overgeblevene van drie zulke douanepalen, waarvan er twee, die op de Toom en op de Berg stonden, door een comite uit Budel aan de gemeente Maarheeze geschonken zijn. Bij deze grenspalen werden na 1650 van uit- en inkomende handelswaar "konvoyen en licenten", geind, belastingen die door de admiraliteit van de Maze, welke daartoe in Budel een "Komptoir" bezat, gepacht waren.

Description
Customs post. Hard stone post, decorated in relief with the arms of the Admiralty of the Maze at Rotterdam; two crossed anchors, covered by a shield with climbing lion, topped by a crown. At the foot of the shield three letters P arranged triangularly (= pugno pro patria). This post, on the old border road to Weet, which belonged to the Spanish, later Austrian Netherlands, is the only one remaining in Budel of three such customs posts, two of which, which stood on the Toom and on the Berg, were donated to the municipality of Maarheeze by a committee from Budel. At these boundary posts, after 1650, "convoys and licences" - taxes which were farmed by the Admiralty of the Maze, which had an office for this purpose in Budel - were levied on incoming and outgoing trade goods.
