Exterior description and setting

Site (to the N of the Lisbarnet Road c.2 miles N of the village of Killinchy) of former mid to later 19th century two storey house, now demolished with modern two storey dwelling built in place.

First Survey record - 'Two storey house; roof slated; gable ends. Rendered brick chimneys. Walls rendered and lined. South east front has 3 first floor and 2 ground floor double hung windows, margined paned, plain surround. Central doorway, elliptic arch head and plain surround, plain fanlight, pannelled door, 2 pane narrow sidelights. Condition poorish. Front about 38 feet. Extension at back and adjacent outbuildings.

Historical information

A house is shown on this site on the OS Maps of 1834 and 1859-60. The second valuation records of c.1861 note that the house was then in the possession of a John Shaw (leased from the Londonderry estate) and had the not insubstantial rateable value of £6-10-0. This may have corresponded to the two storey dwelling standing on this site until recently, however, this particular property, with (among other things) its margin paned windows, had a late nineteenth century appearance which suggests that it was post 1860 in date.
The house was demolished some time between 1974 and c.1990.
