The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Road bridge carrying the Belfast Road over a former mill race, roughly a mile N of Ballygowan.
The bridge is random rubble built with a single small semicircular arch. The W face appears largely untouched and has a low parapet to the roadside, whilst that to the E appears to have been partly reconstructed (using fresh random rubble) and has a taller parapet with ‘spiky’ rubble coping.
Historical information
A bridge is shown on the OS maps of 1834 and 1858, carrying the road over a mill race serving a near by ‘Knockmasham’ corn mill.
