Exterior description and setting

Small two storey shop (originally a house) set in the terrace on the S side of Bridge Street.

Front (N) façade has a glazed and panelled doorway to the right on the ground floor encased with plain pilasters, entablature and cornice. To the left of this is a large modern window with timber signboard above. To the first floor there are two windows with modern frames.

To the rear there is a large, modern, part full height, part single storey, flat roofed extension. To the exposed section of the main rear façade (to right on the first floor) is a window with modern frame.

The front façade is finished in lined render, the rear in rough cast. The gabled roof is covered in asbestos-free slate. Rendered chimney stack to E. PVC rw goods.

Historical information

Though this end of Bridge Street is shown vacant on the 1722 map of Comber, it is shown occupied on all other available maps after this. It is likely that this property may date from the later 18th or early 19th century and is probably that shown on the 1834 OS map and noted as the home of a Samuel McCann in the valuation returns of the same year.

When first surveyed in December 1975 this property was still a house.

Small two storey terrace shop, originally a house of probable pre 1834 origin. The front façade now sports a large modern shop window and there is a large modern extension to the rear.
