Exterior description and setting

Largely original single storey gabled dwelling, just off the N side of the Ballyblack Road, c.2 miles W of Carrowdore.

Front S facade has slightly right of centre sheeted timber door with small glazed panel. Plain surround with decorated keystone to doorway. To the left of the door are three sash windows with horizontal glazing bars and plain surrounds. Two similar windows to right of door.

The W gable is blank.

Small lean to ‘shed’ attached to E gable, but gable otherwise blank.

The rear facade has a left of centre partly glazed door, with a small two pane window to the right.

The entire facade is covered in rough cast render. Chamfered quoins to front.

The roof is pitched asbestos slates and is partly covered in climbing plant stems. Three brick chimney stacks. Cast iron rw goods.

Outbuildings to E.

Historical information

This building is shown on the OS Maps of 1833/4 and 1858-60. On both maps there is a small building slightly to the south (at the entrance to the short lane leading to this house) marked ‘School house’, but nothing of this building has survived.

Plain single storey direct entry dwelling of probable early nineteenth century origin (at least). Externally this house appears to be largely original.
