Exterior description and setting

Single storey gabled house on the N side of the Woburn Road c.2 miles S of Millisle. This house, probably built in c.1904, was probably originally ‘L’ shaped in plan, but has been extended recently.

‘Front’ SE facade has large PVC conservatory placed around original front entrance. The entrance itself appears to have been enlarged and now has ‘French’ doors. To the left of the conservatory is a modern timber window with ‘Georgian’ panes. To the right are two similar windows.

The NE gable has a similar window to front. This gable merges with the NE facade of a gabled return, which has a window as previous.

The NW gable of the return also has a window as front. This gable merges with the NW facade of a large, modern, flat roofed extension.

The NW facade of the extension has two large-ish PVC windows flanking a panelled and glazed rear door. The SW elevation of the extension has a modern timber window and the SW gable of the main house has a timber window, as front.

The entire facade is finished with rough cast render with a recessed base.

The roofs of the main house and the return are pitched with Bangor blue slates and two centred brick chimney stacks to main roof. Rendered parapets and slight overhang to roofs. PVC rw goods.

Historical information

Though a building is shown on this general site on the OS Maps of 1833/4 and 1858-60, it does not match the positioning of the present house exactly. According to the current owner, the house dates from c.1904 and was built as a ‘Woburn’ estate worker’s residence. The return appears to be original, but the flat roofed extension was added recently.
