Exterior description and setting

Relatively plain two storey roughcast terrace house of c.1840-50 with semicircular arched doorway, set on the north west side of Main Street, Greyabbey. This house belongs to a terrace which originally contained four similar properties, however, the two houses to the NE have been amalgamated.

The front elevation is asymmetrical and faces approximately SE. To the left on the ground floor there is a timber glazed door, with semicircular arch fanlight, all encased within plain painted stone pilasters and surround to arch. This narrow arched doorway resembles those still seen in many terraces in Newtownards. To the right of the door is a sash window with Georgian panes (6/6). To the first floor (directly above the ground floor openings) are two windows, similar in style to previous but shorter (6/3) . The front facade is finished in roughcast with plain narrow surrounds to the windows.

There is a large return with mono pitched roof, to the rear. The gabled roof is slated with a single rendered chimney stack to the right (shared with No.4). Cast iron rw goods to front.

Historical information

The short terrace to which this house belongs was built some time between 1834 and 1860.
