Exterior description and setting

Large two storey farmhouse set at the end of a long lane with an accompanying complex of farm buildings.

Front E facade has fairly recent off centre gabled porch with modern timber and glazed door with fanlight and sidelights with modern timber windows to either side of porch. Two PVC windows to left of porch made to resemble the original sliding sash and case windows, having simulated horizontal and vertical astragals between double glazing, but with top hung upper openers. Simple surrounds to all windows on main house. Window to right of porch as before, with four similar, but slightly smaller, windows to the first floor.

Rear has similar arrangement except with single storey gabled return between first and second ground floor windows, with small fixed light timber window to gable of return.

North gable has window (as first floor front) to left on first floor.

South gable has similar window to right on first floor with modern style two pane timber window to left on ground floor.

South side of return has timber door to right and small window with horizontal and vertical astragals to the left. North side of return has small fixed light window to left and older two pane window to right.

Entire building covered in rough cast render. Roofs of main house and return gabled and pitched with asbestos slates to main house and Bangor blues to return, with four rendered chimney stacks to main house and one to gable of return. PVC gutters and down spouts.

Farm buildings to south of various ages.

Historical information

A house shown on this site on the OS Map of 1834 but without return or porch, with similar plan on revised map of 1860. The return appears to be later nineteenth century, whist the porch was added in the late 1960s.
