Exterior description and setting

Single storey house with attic set on a high bank on the Ardminnan Road just south of the village of Cloughy.

Front W elevation has off centre flat roofed porch with curious curved ‘crenellations’ with moulding. Timber panelled front door in right (N) side of porch (with moulded ‘heart’ motif in simple keystone), with modern two pane timber window with moulded surround in front (W) side. Similar window to left of porch with two to right.

N gable has small modern two pane attic window (without surround), with a similar window to S gable, which also has a another (similar) window to right on ground floor.

Rear has small right of centre gabled return with modern windows to rear of main house and return, much as before, except for that to right on main house which is metal and has six panes. Front and gables finished in lined render with chamfered vermiculated quoins, chamfered plinth and painted.

Rear finished in plain render and only partly painted.

Roofs gabled and pitched with asbestos-free slates to main house and asbestos to return. Four yellow brick chimneys with dentilled corbelling to main house. Velux window to right of centre at front. Cast iron gutters and down spouts.

Historical information

There is a smaller building on this site shown on the OS Map of 1834, suggesting that the present house was constructed in the mid to later nineteenth century. The curious front porch may be a later Edwardian addition along with the quoins and the moulding to the front facade windows.
