Exterior description and setting
The building has been demolished and the site cleared. The site now houses a park and wind turbine
The First Survey card records:
‘2/sty house with basement & attic & coachyard on NE corner enclosed by 2/Sty bldgs & boundary wall. House fronting S. has hipped & slated roof. Rendered chimneys. Walls rendered (on stone), lined & formerly painted. Front has 5 F/Fl & 4 Gr/Fl D/H windows, Georgn panes. Fine central doorway elliptic arch head. 3 - head stone surround recessed with panelled intrados & enclosing decor. fanlight above stone cornice & frieze transome, broken forward each side & supported on Doric pilaster & column & framing plain sidelights & central glazed & panelled door. Paterae on frieze above pilasters, columns & door. Mld. platt step to doorway. w/iron lattice apron screens to R/H Gr/Fl windows.
Coach house backset at N.E. corner of house has hipped & slated roof, rendered chimney, r/cast walls & elliptic arch coachway with sheeted door giving access to coach yard. Bldgs. enclosing coachyard have slated & cor/asbestos roofs. whinstone rubble walls & various openings. & date stones..
Condition of house poorish. Coachyard bldgs somewhat ruinous. S. front of house about 70 ft.
Date stone on E. gable of house "1644". Date stones on coachyard bldgs give "W.S.N 1819", "W.S.N. 1823", "R.S.N. 1855", "R.S.N. 1856", "R.S.N. 1857". All members of the Nicholson family.
All bldgs. substantially appear on O.S. map of 1833
