The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
A two-storey gabled and slated stone building in a very poor condition. Built of basalt rubble with red brick block dressings to openings. There were two chimneys, including one on the west gable, but now both missing. Doorways are rectangular timber ledged with wooden lintels. Short flight of exterior steps up to doorway in east gable. Windows were rectangular timber, sashed 2 over 1, with horns, but all now derelict.
SETTING: The building occupies a corner site within the grounds of Ballywee Corn Mill (HB20/06/014A) with its south face and east gable facing directly onto the public roads, set back only by a narrow grass verge.
Historical information
Precise date of building not known, but the eastern half appears on the OS map of 1832; later doubled in size; built as a house in connection with Ballywee Corn Mill (HB20/06/014A); it remained as the dwelling until the 1960s; since then it's use has changed to that of agricultural store, and it has fallen into disrepair.
