Exterior description and setting

A pair of single storey houses in a terrace, originally three houses but with two of them now combined into one. Main entrances to both houses face south.

Entrance elevation of No 18 has rendered walls with a dry dash; roof of Bangor blue slates in regular courses, with a later flat roofed full width dormer which has smooth rendered front and cheeks; later rustic brick chimney; PVC gutter and downpipe; timber fascia to dormer; later flat roofed entrance porch, of timber construction, with timber fascia; windows are modern rectangular timber fixed lights with top-hung vents.

Entrance elevation of No 19, which now also incorporates the original No 20, is of similar character and materials except no porch or dormer. End gable plain.

Rear elevations of both houses are of similar materials and of modernised character.

SETTING: The houses stand within a terrace, within the built-up area of the town; they face onto the main road, set back slightly with small gardens in front, bounded by smooth rendered garden walls.

The houses were described in the first survey in 1971 as "A terrace of three single storey cottages connected to a two storey brick/rendered terrace. Nos 18 and 20 are double fronted with window either side of the entrance; No 19 has a single window. Nos 19 and 20 are built of blackstone rubble with flat brick arches to doors and windows; the façade of 18 has been rendered. All windows are double hung with full glazing bars set in wide sash boxes. Each door is sheeted. The roofs are slated; chimneys are of brickwork. Garden walls are finished in modern roughcast."

Historical information

Built as a terrace of three single storey cottages, but two of them joined into one in 1994. Original date of buildings not known, but they appear on the site on the OS map of 1829.
