The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
A two wheeled rotary pump with splay shaped undecorated column and a fluted cap. On the base of the column is inscribed 'W Willis Dublin Road Belfast 1930' (plumber) and on the opposite side 'W & Co B' denoting Winnington & Co, Belfast, the pumps manufacturer. The cap is damaged, as is the axle to which the two wheels are attached. The pump is prominently located at a street corner opposite the Parish Church.
Historical information
A pump is shown at this location on the OS 25 inch maps of 1902, 1919 and 1938 (PRONI Ref OS 10/3/9/14/1-3). The date on the pump indicates that this is a replacement of an earlier pump. Further particulars in the EHS report 'Water Pumps in Northern Ireland : A Preliminary Survey' by Fred Hammond, January 1997, Pump no. 33.

Evaluation
This is a good example of a rotary type water pump. It is sited in a prominent position in the centre of Drumbo and is an important reminder of the time when drinking water was only available from public sources.
