Exterior description and setting

A single storey, one room, lobby entry house with thatch under corrugated iron roof covering. The stone walls are finished at the front with whitened harling and with a dressing of cement at the rear. The roughcast chimney over the hearth is finished with a concrete capping and is provided with one pot.

Lisnoe Road leaves the Lisburn/Ballynahinch road in a south-westerly direction about one and three quarter miles from the centre of Lisburn. No. 37 lies less than half a mile off the road to the north-west.

A windbreak porch under an extension of the corrugated iron at the right end of the front elevation is finished with whitened roughcast on the face. There is a timber fascia above the timber sheeted entrance door.

To the left of the porch there are two timber framed plain glazed windows divided into two horizontally. At the rear a single timber framed window is divided horizontally in the proportion of 1 (top) to 2. The windows are fixed lights and they are not provided with sills.

Historical information

The building appears as part of a short terrace on the OS map of 1833 together with two small outbuildings.
The OS map of 1858 includes two extra outbuildings.
The property formed part of the Alexander Lennox estate originally.
At one stage the one room house was extended to include a byre with bedroom above but this no longer exists.

A single storey, one room, lobby entry house with thatch under corrugated iron roof covering. The stone walls are finished with whitened harling at the front and with a dressing of cement at the rear.
The continuing existence of an occupied one room house is unique as far as is known at present and retention of details such as the hearth and the roof timbers is important.
