The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Site, at 97 Tannaghmore Road, (at the end of a long lane to the NE of Tannaghmore Road, c.2 miles NW of Seaforde), of a former horse walk of possible mid to later 19th century construction, now completely removed with no visible trace remaining on what is now merely the edge of a scrubby field. The (possibly contemporary) farm outbuildings which the horse walk undoubtedly served have also been demolished, as has the original farm house.
This structure was described in the first survey in November 1980 as 'Horse walk / Mill set on a retained circular platform'.
Historical information
Buildings are shown on this general site on the OS map of 1834 (but not noted in the near contemporary valuation returns), though the horse walk itself is not indicated. It is not indicated on the revised map of 1858 either, though the outbuildings (which stood on the site until recently) are shown. It does appear to be shown on the 1901 OS map, however.
The horse walk itself was removed in c.1990, along with most of the original outbuildings.
